Ben the Braai Master |
GABBY - I woke up this morning to an antsy, frustrated Ben. He felt trapped in the backpackers and felt
that we were not taking advantage of the opportunities around us because we
were forced to stay inside and work reception or the kitchen. I tried to cheer him up, but eventually was
brought down and shared his sentiments. I
felt that it was our vacation, but we weren’t able to really go and do anything
since we were in complete control of the backpackers. If there was just one other person working in
the backpackers, it would have been fine.
Claire was busy with the horses and hadn’t been here long enough to be
left completely alone running everything.
To top it all off, a friend of Steve’s who is a single dad dropped his
kids off for the day. He didn’t pay us
one cent, but we were stuck babysitting, feeding, and entertaining 2 pre-teens
for the day. It was clear that we were
in serious need of a break. We sent the
2 kids off on a 3 hour horse ride and peaced out for the afternoon. Both Ben and I managed to get a ride into
town and get away from the farm for a bit.
We shopped for groceries and sat in an internet café for awhile. We got back to Khotso just in time to greet
the returning Lesotho trip. Ben started
up the braii and I began boiling some potatoes.
He made burgers, while I made the chips and salad. We have gotten this meal down to a science. Our timing is just right and it’s one of our
best team meals that we create together.
We went to bed hoping that we would wake up on the right side of the bed
in the morning.
